Using its mandate as a Civil Society accredited organisation CAA has called on the CHOG who meet in Colombo on 15 November 2013 to build urban resilience.
Drawing attention to the effects of extreme natural events linked to climate change and disruption to bulk service provision CAA recommended key mitigation strategies;
- Resisting urban development in high risk areas
- Mitigating effects in existing high rise areas
- Decoupling the energy/water/emissions nexus by providing off-grid services through alternative and innovative technologies
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through regulation of standards of building envelope thermal performance
CAA Council has also agreed to establish an ad hoc group to assist the Commonwealth Secretariat in exploring and developing urban adaptation and mitigation strategies.
