CAA’s new website has been designed as a networking and exchange hub for architects in Commonwealth countries supporting CAA’s founding objective to advance the profession and to promote and increase architectural knowledge.
The site is founded on data from two sources; our member organisations/countries and the schools of architecture which confer qualifications in architecture recognised by CAA – the CAA ‘College of Schools’.
‘Members’ leads to pages on each member country with information on; the profession and education; potential for Cross Border mobility; as well as key country data with links to factsheets produced by the Commonwealth Secretariat and Millennium Development Goals reports. News from members is also featured in the sidebar.
Each page provides a link to in-country CAA contacts and Schools
To complete the picture of Architecture in the Commonwealth we provide contact and cross border and country data for all other countries that we know have, or have had in the past, national organisations representing architects.
‘Schools’ leads to individual pages for all 85 schools of architecture with qualifications recognised by CAA. The pages contain detailed information on the status of CAA’s recognition and, in time, other information as this is supplied by the schools. The sidebar provides space for us to feature news from schools.
The site also contains other articles which can be viewed by selected category. Under ‘Knowledge and Resources’ you will find a link to the Australian Institute of Architects CPD website with all courses offered to CAA member at AIA member rates. There is also a book ‘Learning Architecture Teaching Architecture: A guide for the Perplexed’ by Professor Tom Heath the former Head of the QUT school, Brisbane.
Beyond information about CAA and its validation system and other activities we give a Calendar of events and links to the various Commonwealth institutions. The site interlinked to social media, Facebook and Twitter.
Essentially, at this stage, the site is a structural frame awaiting infill and cladding. Of course we need your help providing this – it’s your site. There is considerable flexibility in the frame to expand and accommodate future change so we’d really value any feedback to help us develop the site to full potential.
My thanks to all who helped with comments and advice during development and those who have contributed content; also to our ‘contractor’, Alive2green in South Africa, for developing and constructing the site.
